Emma Stone joining GANGSTER SQUAD?

Emma Stone is in talks to reteam with director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) on his upcoming period crime film, The Gangster Squad. She would join a cast that includes Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi and Michael Pena. Variety reports that Stone would play the coveted role of Jean, "a sharp-tongued siren caught in a love triangle with Gosling's character and Penn, who portrays famed mobster Mickey Cohen." There is no confirmation on the negotiations at this time.

The script was written by Will Beal. As we previously reported, the movie will be based on a series of articles in The Los Angeles Times written by Paul Lieberman back in 2008. The articles examine an LAPD unit that's set up in the 1940s to fend off the growing influence of the East Coast Mafia in the city. The police group ended up becoming very powerful, and the battles with the Mafia escalated, leading to mayhem and betrayals. The LAPD unit was a secret "off the record" police task force who went after Meyer Harris "Mickey" Cohen, a high-profile gangster who was a member of the "Jewish Mafia".

Stone will reportedly move from Gangster Squad to starring in Mike Diliberti's upcoming action-comedy Little White Corvette. The actress has a busy summer with Crazy, Stupid Love opening soon and The Help opening in August. I think that this is a great role for he, the cast and story are unbelievable.
