A big rumor has just hit the net that I find hard to believe. According to a website called ThinkMcFlyThink, Warner Bros. studios is quietly developing a "Worlds Finest" kind of movie that would bring DC superheroes Batman and Superman together on the big screen, which would be awesome! But, remember this is just a rumor. The site also mentions that a Justice League is finally gaining some momentum, but that's nothing new since earlier this year Warner Bros. Pictures president Jeff Robinov said that a live-action Justice League movie is in the works, that a script is currently being written, and that the plan is to release it in theaters in 2013.
Here's what the website is reporting,
Sources tell TMT WB is keen on getting a Justice League movie going and still high on The Flash despite Green Lantern being neither the critical or commercial success they'd hoped for nor was it embraced by fans. But the studio is also quietly developing a Batman/Superman team-up movie.
Similar to Justice League, the Brothers Warner has wanted to get their two biggest superheroes on the same screen together for years. The closest it came to fruition was Batman vs. Superman with Wolfgang Peterson-directing from a script by Andrew Kevin Walker. That fell apart as we all know, but executives loved that script.
It would be great to see a Batman/Superman team up film! I think it could be something epically incredible, and it's something fans would love to see. I'm sure after all of these years the studio must have talked about bringing these two characters together in a live-action film. There's no doubt that people would flock to the theaters to see an action-packed adventure starring these two iconic heroes. It's basically a guaranteed money maker, so why wouldn't the studio want to do it?
The site then goes on to talk about what stories are being worked on for the two superheroes, and whether or not Christian Bale and Henery Cavill would reprise their roles.
In a classic case of covering your ass, what we're hearing is two separate incarnations are being tooled. One version where the World's Greatest Detective is firmly established and helps mentor an up-and-coming, fresh-faced Supes and vice versa. Essentially, they're hoping they can woo Christian Bale back into the cape-and-cowl for a fourth time and in case the Oscar-winner tells them, "No thanks, I'm done!", they'll go for a new actor altogether. Both versions would feature Henry Cavill's Last Son of Krypton.
Bale has already said this third Batman will be his last, so I seriously doubt that he will come back for another. There is nothing solid with this news, this is all just an unconfirmed rumor. So as of right now this is just a discussion piece.
I think it would be awesome of the WB moving forward with a film project like this, it could be incredible if done right. I also don't feel that I need to see Bale or Cavill reprise their roles in a movie like this. It could easily be a separate story with the characters portrayed by different actors. To be honest, I'm not really 100% sold yet on Cavill as Superman anyway.
What are your thoughts on Warner Bros. possibly developing a Batman and Superman team-up movie? Is this something you could jump on board with?
