Could Shawn Levy exit FANTASTIC VOYAGE?

It looks like Shawn Levy may decide to drop out of Fantastic Voyage. THR reports that the director of Night at the Museum, Date Night and the upcoming Real Steel, may be growing weary of the casting hurdles and slow momentum of the big-budget re-imagining of the 1966 sci-fi movie. It is reported that Levy has even begun to look at other projects, and sources are saying that Levy may end up likley moving on from the project that has yet to get a green light.
The story deals with "a team of scientists who are shrunk to atomic size and sent in a miniature submarine inside the body of a scientist to save his life." James Cameron is producing with his Lightstorm Entertainment partner Jon Landau. The project is planeed as a CGI heavy film, but Fox has kept it a priority.
Levy is interested in getting an A-list star to lead the cast, but Fox is not too keen on the idea of a huge name and salary being added to the high production costs. Levy has arranged a meeting with Will Smith in the next couple weeks. If Smith agrees to the project, Levy will likley stick with helming Voyage, and Fox likely would be happy wiht the idea of casting the star. If Smith passes, and a replacement could not be hired soon, Levy may likely move onto another project for his next directing gig.
I am not sure how I feel about this remake to begin with. I am sure it would look cool to see the Cameron touch on the effects, but do we really need another big budget remake going forward in Hollywood. I would be fine seeing more new and unique stories getting a green light. What are your thoughts? Who would you like to see in the lead of this film if it moves forward?
