Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion/Horizons looking for female lead opposite Tom Cruise

Universal may have dropped Wicked Lovely and Ouija, but is fast-tracking Joseph Kosinski's sci-fi epic Horizons (once called Oblivion). The film is set to star Tom Cruise, so it makes sense that Universal is testing a diverse who's-who of Hollywood actresses for the female lead this weekend.

Variety reports that the list includes: Jessica Chastain, Olivia Wilde, Brit Marling, Noomi Rapace and Olga Kurylenko, but that others may be in consideration.

Cruise is playing the role of "Jack, a man who lives in the clouds above Earth and heads to its surface to repair drones that essentially keep the planet safe from an alien race that has all but wiped out humanity." The script calls for two key female leads-- "Victoria, Jack's right-hand woman and lover who serves as his eyes and ears while he's on repair missions, and Julia, his fiancee on Earth before the alien invasion."

The film is based on Kosinski's upcoming graphic novel from Radical Publishing that remains titled Oblivion for now, but may change. Producers had to drop the title for the movie because of the video game Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The pic is being produced by Chernin Entertainment's Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark along with Radical Pictures' Barry Levine and Kosinski, while Radical's Jesse Berger is exec producing. The script was initially drafted by William Monahan and Karl Gadjusek, and has just been polished by Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine).

The PG-13 project  was purchased in April after Disney let it go, and has set it for a July 19, 2013, release. This sounds like a great project and I would love to see either Marling or Rapce in the leads. What are your thoughts?
