MYSTERY TEAM Director Dan Eckman looking to Direct THE BOY WHO COULDN’T SLEEP AND NEVER HAD TO
Mystery Team director Dan Eckman has lined up a couple new directing projects coming up, that I wanted to point out to you. I don't know if you saw the comedy Mystery Team or not, but the movie is a great comedy that I suggest you watch if you haven't seen yet. Eckamn most recently directed the MTV film Worst. Prom. Ever. This is a talented guy who is surrounded by talented people, and there's no doubt that he's a rising director in Hollywood.
It was recently revealed on Collider that Eckman will be directing the 13th episode of Community, which is one of my favorite TV shows right now. It was also revealed that he would be directing an adaptation of the book The Boy Who Couldn’t Sleep and Never Had To written by DC Pierson who played one of the lead characters in Mystery Team. The story is described as "a heartfelt coming-of-age story that weaves in sci-fi and fantasy elements." Eckman is currently taking the script he wrote with producing partner Meggie McFadden to various studios, and is trying to get the backing they need to make the film. I hope this all works out for Eckman and his partners, and I'm looking forward to see this film project come to life. It's a great story.
For those of you not familiar with the book here’s the synopsis:
A wildly original and hilarious debut novel about the typical high school experience: the homework, the awkwardness, and the mutant creatures from another galaxy. When Darren Bennett meets Eric Lederer, there’s an instant connection. They share a love of drawing, the bottom rung on the cruel high school social ladder and a pathological fear of girls. Then Eric reveals a secret: He doesn’t sleep. Ever. When word leaks out about Eric’s condition, he and Darren find themselves on the run. Is it the government trying to tap into Eric’s mind, or something far darker? It could be that not sleeping is only part of what Eric’s capable of, and the truth is both better and worse than they could ever imagine.
