Peter Berg ad Liz Heldens sell western series to NBC

Peter Berg and Liz Heldens have sold a script fof a western series to NBC. THR reports that the series will tell the story from a female point of view. At this point, details are begin kept under wraps on the project that is from Universal Media Studios and Berg's Film 44. Berg and Sarah Aubrey will serve as executive producers. Heldens will not only write, but is also serving as an executive producer.
This marks one oa number of small screen western projects in the works, including AMC's upcoming series Hell On Wheels, set during the building of the Union Pacific Railroad in the 1860s. A&E also has a pilot Longmire, about a widowed sheriff in Absaroka County, Wyoming. Recently, TNT ordered Gateway and ABC and CBS nabbed David Zabel's Gunslinger and James Mangold's Ralph Lamb, respectively.
It is good to know that the western genre is not dead, at least not on the small screen. Feature film westerns have not faired too well, especially Cowboys & Aliens. What are your thoughts on this news? Are a you a fan of the genre?
