Chaos Cinema and The Rise and Fall of Action Movies
"Same old gal just ain't what she used to be."
Press Play contributor Matthias Stork did an interesting pair of videos analyzing a new type of technique used in film making, particularly used in Action Films called "Chaos Cinema". It is in Storks opinion that these new kind of shaky over the top sporadic action sequences (as seen in The Hurt Locker, Transformers, and about every action movie you've seen in the past 5 years) are classless and are cheapening the overall cinematic quality of 'old style' action movies...yeah.
Don't get me wrong, as a dude, I love me some action movies, but don't try to tell me that making an action movie appear to have more action is cheapening what I'm watching...that's like telling me using a tube to spread mayonnaise on my sandwich is cheapening my sandwich quality because I didn't use a knife (in case you needed a parallel drawn there). Anyways, having said that, the movies are interesting and a good insight into contemporary cinema...so give em a watch, and action buffs! I'm arranging a compilation of the best action gun battles in cinema! So shoot me an email at MickJoest@geektyrant.com and help a gecken out ya?
