Details on Gareth Edwards' new Sci-Fi Film Revealed - "a robot Star Wars"

Movie Science Fiction by Joey Paur

Ever since Gareth Edwards' first low-budget feature film Monsters hit, his career has taken off. I wasn't really all that impressed with his monsters film, it had a great marketing campaign behind it, but I thought the actual film was boring. Even though the film didn't click with me, it still showed that he had a talent for filmmaking. He's currently attached to direct the new Godzilla movie for Legendary Pictures from a script currently being rewritten by David Goyer. A sequel to Monsters is currently in development that he will produce, and he's also been working a sci-fi project with Wanted director/producer Timur Bekmambetov

There's basically been no details revealed for this last film other than it will be an “epic human story, set in a futuristic world without humanity.” but today our friends at /Film got some intel giving us some insight on what the story of this movie is,

...the still untitled project is about a young human child (probably around 5 years old) and a robot who travel across the galaxy in search of mankind’s origin in a world void of humanity and filled with robots. Sounds pretty awesome right? Gareth is pitching this project as “a robot Star Wars.”

That does sound awesome! Kids and robots are just such a great film formula. The script is still currently in development and it's sounds like it could be much more ambitious than any of the other films he has and will work on. It was also rumored that the film will shoot on a $35 million dollar budget, which is more than what Neil Blomkamp had for District 9. It will be great to see this film begin to take shape. What are your thoughts on the story details?
