Walden Media to Adapt FLAT STANLEY for the Big Screen

Movie by Joey Paur

Walden Media has acquired the screen rights the the 1964 children's book series Flat Stanley. The books were written by Jeff Brown, and it follows the adventures of a two-dimensional person stuck in a 3D world. The film will be shot in live-action, but the lead character will be added digitally to the film in one-dimension. That should look interesting.

Here's a description of the story:

Stanley Lambchop and his younger brother Arthur are given a big bulletin board by their Dad for displaying pictures and posters. He hangs it on the wall over Stanley's bed. During the night the board falls from the wall, flattening Stanley in his sleep. He survives and makes the best of his altered state, and soon he is entering locked rooms by sliding under the door, and playing with his younger brother by being used as a kite. One special advantage is that Flat Stanley can now visit his friends by being mailed in an envelope. Stanley even helps catch some art museum thieves by posing as a painting on the wall. Eventually Arthur reverts Stanley to his proper shape using an air pump used for football.

This is such a strange and interesting concept. Even though this book series has been around since the 60‘s I’ve honestly never heard of it until today. Are you familiar with Flat Stanley? Do you think this book series will make for a good kids film?
