John Hodgman playing Egon's son in GHOSTBUSTERS 3?

Movie Ghostbusters by

Is comedian John Hodgman starring in the long awaited third Ghostbusters film? He was a recent guest on an episode of "The Best Show" on WFMU where he heavily implied his involvement in the film and revealed that he has been doing some "secret errands" for Dan Ackroyd!

Hodgman could not confirm or deny involvement and so he polled the audience about his hypothetical role in the film:

If you were hypothetically offered a role in Ghostbusters 3... would you take the role? Let's say you're [playing] sort of the dissolute son of Egon, the Harold Ramis character, and you're kind of like John Candy in Splash, you're kind of a mess. But it turns out you're a natural ghost-whisperer, a natural psychic. But here's the thing: Bill Murray's not going to be in this movie, and probably not happy that you are. But you get to be in a major role, in a major movie and one of the greatest franchises of all time. Would you do it?

So it looks as though Hodgman MAY be playing Egon's son. What do you think about the explanation for the delay? Is Hollywood afraid of Bill Murray?

To add to the mystery, Hodgman tweeted the following:

"Tom @Scharpling will be in Dan Aykroyd's Ghostbusters 3 as Harold Ramis's deadbeat son, who is also a ghost whisperer." Scharpling is the host of "The Best Show."

What are your thoughts on all of this?
