ABC developing second JEKYLL & HYDE drama with a sci-fi twist

TV ABC by

It looks like ABC now has two Jekyll & Hyde series. Earlier we reported that the network had purchsed a modern-day take from Sheldon Turner (Up in the Air), and now they have one from producer Mark Gordon. This project is written by Matt Lopez (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice), and is described as "a suspenseful, darkly romantic retelling of the classic tale with a unique sci-fi twist that mayy be cloning-related." The story is set in modern San Francisco, and centers on "a female criminal psychologist who is drawn into the mysterious world of a brilliant but inhibited scientist and his volatile alter ego."

Deadline reports that the Jekyll & Hyde lore was an area they wanted to develop for pilot season. The network will have two projects to choose from. The other show is called Hyde. It centers on "Grant Hyde, a thirtysomething ER doctor with a degenerative eye condition who is conflict averse and hesitant to be captain of his own destiny. After attempting an experimental treatment to improve his eyesight, he begins to experience a strange side effect – when he goes to sleep, his id manifests itself as HYDE, a fearless, gregarious personality who takes control where Grant cannot."

Either of these projects sound pretty cool. I like the idea of a unique sci-fi twist being added, but the other story sounds equally cool. I would not want to be in ABC's shoes to have to pick between which show they push forward. They may decide to mix and match the pieces of each story.
