THE RAID to get Remade by Screen Gems

Remember that incredibly badass trailer we showed you earlier this month for that Indonesia film called The Raid? If not click here to watch it. Well, the Hollywood wolves have already hunted it down and are on the verge of remaking it for American audiences. I still haven't even seen the original film yet, which I'm incredibly excited about, but Sony's Screen Gems in currently in negotiations to take on the remake.

The film tells the story of a SWAT team that becomes trapped in a tenement run by a ruthless mobster, armed with two highly violent martial arts killers and an army of machete-swinging, machine gun-toting dealers and thugs.

This was one of the most buzzed about movies up at the Toronto International Film Festival, and it really is no surprise that it's getting a remake. Apparently one of the coolest things about this movie is the unique Indonesian fighting style called silat that were put into it by writer-director Gareth Evans. There's no word on how Screen Gems plans to handle this aspect of the film, I imagine it's not easy to teach people this fighting style, so I guess they can count out any big name actors, because chances are they don't know silat. I'm really curious to see how they end up tackling this movie, but I'm more excited to finally get to see the original film. What do you think?
