Jackie Earle Haely Joins Spielberg's LINCOLN
Watchman star Jackie Earle Haley has officially joined the cast of Steven Spielberg’s highly anticipated filmLincoln. Haley will play the vice president of the Confederate States Alexander Stephens during the Civil War. He was also not a big fan of Lincoln’s slavery reform agenda. Stephens is mostly remembered by a speech he gave in which he said he said, "Our new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition." Wow, what a dick. But Haley is a great choice for the role and should play him perfectly. What's crazy is he actually kind of looks like the guy.
Spielberg will start shooting the film this fall and he wants to release it after the presidential elections in late 2012. Haley will join Daniel Day-Lewis who plays Abraham Lincoln, Sally Field as Mary Todd, Tommy Lee Jones and Joseph Gordon-Levitt also star. The film will focus on the last four years of Lincoln's life. Haley is currently in London shooting the Tim Burton-directed Dark Shadows for Warner Bros.
