N.W.A. biopic may move ahead without John Singleton

Earlier we reported that John Singleton was in talks to direct the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton. Vulture is now reporting that the film is rapidly coming together, and may not be directed by Singleton. Despite Singleton's past working relationship with Ice Cube (who is producing the film) things may not work out. Insiders close to the project are saying that New Line Cinema is looking at some A-list directors: Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow), F. Gary Gray (Friday) and Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights). 

I really liked the feel of Hustle & Flow so I think that Brewer would be the best of the bunch. I think that Singleton would still be a good choice, but lets see how it turns out. What are your thoughts?
