Joe Roth producing Angelina Jolie's MALEFICENT for Disney

Joe Roth is involved in yet another fairy tale feature film. Deadline reports that Roth is in talks to become a producer of Disney's Maleficent, which is "a re-telling of the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty, this time told from the vantage point of the evil witch." Angelina Jolie is interested in playing the title character. Linda Woolverton (Alice in Wonderland, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast) is penning the script. Disney is currently looking for a director, after talks with Tim Burton did not pan out. 

Roth produced Alice in Wonderland and is currenlty involved in a number of other projects. He is producing Disney’s Sam Raimi's Oz: The Great and Powerful with James Franco, Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz, as well as Snow White and the Huntsman, the Universal Pictures epic that is being directed by Rupert Sanders and stars Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth.

I am looking forward to both of the current films that Roth is producing and am every interested in seeing where Maleficent goes. Jolie would be the best fit for the role. What are your thoughts?
