Justin Timberlake to play Neil Bogart in biopic SPINNING GOLD

Justin Timberlake is set to play another real-life person in a new biopic. Deadline reports that Timberlake will star in Spinning Gold as 1970s record producer Neil Bogart, co-founder of Casablanca Records. The new film is being develope by Boardwalk Films, a division Boardwalk Entertainment Group recently launched by Bogart’s sons — writer-producer-director Timothy Scott Bogart and songwriter and music publisher Evan “Kidd” Bogart, along with TV producer Gary Randall. The three will serve as a producers with Timberlake, and the actor-singer’s manager Rick Yorn executive producing.

Tim Bogart wrote the script that follows the "rags-to-riches story of Neil Bogart, a dirt-poor Jewish kid from Brooklyn who went on to become a multimillionaire and help define 1970s pop culture with his Casablanca label that launched the careers of such superstars as KISS, Parliament, Donna Summer, and The Village People."

Here is what Tim Bogart had to say about the film that has been “literally three decades in the making.”:

“This is saga about a young dreamer who started with nothing and came of age in the ’60s and ’70s, believing anything was possible and every risk was worth taking."

The problem has been finding an actor to play the role:

”we needed an young actor who can carry this picture. When Justin walked into the room, that was the moment I had been waiting for 29 years. He has the exact same energy as my father, the same glimmer in his eye.”

Spinning Gold will be independently financed, but will reportedly have a big budget. The producers arae looking for potential directors, and production is targeted to begin before the end of 2012. An album is scheduled to be released by Boardwalk Records in conjunction with the movie.

Timberlake has better luck playing roles of real-life people. I think he is a perfect pick for the part. What are your thoughts?
