Britain Hosts Its First Klingon Wedding
I imagine when most girls think of their dream wedding they imagine themselves with a prosthetic forehead and a coarse black wig exchanging guttural vows with her husband to be. What's that? No little girl has those dreams! Then what's with all the Kilingon weddings??? We've seen our fair share here in the States, but apparently Britain just held their first one.
After seeing the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode in which Worf marries Officer Dax in a traditional Kilingon ceremony (I actually remember this one), this Swedish couple, 23-year-old bride Jossie Sockertopp and 29-year-old groom Sonnie Gustavsson, decided to perform their nuptials in the same heartfelt fashion. The bride explained,
We saw the clip from the series...and we thought it was very romantic about beating hearts and a battle for each other.
One plane ride and three bangs of gong later, the couple tied the knot in front of 17,000 people at the Destination Star Trek London event where all five captains from the Star Trek TV series are scheduled to appear on stage for the first time together. Check out the video of the ceremony and interviews with the couple. The interview with the man who performed the wedding, who had to quickly learn some Klingon phrases, is pretty funny.
