Michael Mann May Take On BIG STONE GRID

Michael Mann may helm a new cop thriller for Sony Pictures. Deadline reports that Mann is in talks to direct The Big Stone Grid based on a spec script by S. Craig Zahler. The project will be produced by Michael De Luca (Moneyball).

The script is "a hard-edged thriller in the vein of Seven and Marathon Man." The story follows "two decorated detectives who uncover a terrifying extortion ring that operates within the secret underbelly of New York City." Mann is planned to work on the script with Zahler. It would not surprise me to see Mann change locales from NYC to L.A., where he set such crime sagas as Heat and Collateral. His next project will be Go Like Hell, which chronicles the "duel between Ford vs. Ferrari for sports car supremacy in the 60s" that he is developing at Fox. Mann is also serving as executive producer on the HBO series Luck with David Milch

The Stone Grid sounds like a great fit for Mann. I love Heat, and can envision that type of tension for this film. What are your thoughts on this news?
