Dwayne Johnson To Star in Brett Ratner's HERCULES

It looks like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson could end up playing Hercules in the upcoming Brett Ratner-directed film. The actor is currently in talks to join the project. The movie is an adaptation of Steve Moore's graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian War, and the script was written by Ryan Condol. I've never read the graphic novel, but it's Hercules.

I could see Johnson taking on a role like this, unfortunately any excitement I might have for this movie is gone because Ratner is directing it. Hopefully, like many of the other films he's been attached to over the years, he will be removed from the project or leave it willingly. I'm not sure why people still hire Ratner to try and make movies like this. His name attached to any project isn't helping the movie, and neither are his non-existent directing skills. I don't know, am I being too hard on the guy? No? Ok.

Johnson will next be seen in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and is currently getting ready to take on Michael Bay's film Pain and Gain.

Here's a description of the graphic novel:

Fourteen-hundred years ago, a tormented soul walked the Earth that was neither man nor god. Hercules, powerful son of the god king Zeus, received nothing but suffering his entire life. After twelve arduous labors and the loss of his family, this dark, world-weary soul turned his back on the gods, finding his only solace in bloody battle. Over the years he warmed to the company of six similar souls, their only bond being their love of fighting and the presence of death. These men and woman never question where, why, or whom they go to fight; only how much they will be paid. Knowing this, the King of Thrace has hired these mercenaries to train his men to become the greatest army of all time. Hercules begins to question King Cotys' motives when he takes his army out to battle and sees them practice on innocent men, women, and children of their neighbors. Deep in his soul something stirs, but is it enough to stop a mad king and his army of the damned from marching across Greece - or even Olympus itself?!

What are your initial thoughts on this movie? Do you think Ratner could take on a project like this and tun it into a good movie? Would you like to see The Rock play Hercules?
