THE IMPOSTER Trailer - Truth Truly Is Stranger Than Fiction

TrailerMovie by Joey Paur

This is the trailer to a documentary called The Imposter that tells the unbelievable true story of how a 23-year-old Frenchman passed himself off as a 13-year-old boy from Texas. This is seriously something you have to see to believe! I saw the movie up at The Sundance Film Festival this year, and it blew me away.

The doc tells the heartbreaking story of a 13-year-old boy named Nicholas Barclay who disappeared in 1994. Three years later a devastated family was told that their son was found in Spain, after he had been kidnapped and tortured. The family was obviously incredibly happy that their son was found alive, and they eventually brought him back home. The crazy part of the story is the fact that the boy they brought home was not their son, and the family didn't even notice! He was actually 23-year-old Frenchman named Frédéric Bourdin.

The story is told through home video footage, recreations of the events that happened, and interviews with the family and also the imposter himself, Frédéric Bourdin. This is one of those documentaries that must be seen to believe. Truth really is stranger than fiction.

Here's the synopsis:

In 1994 a 13-year-old boy disappeared without a trace from his home in San Antonio, Texas. Three and a half years later he is found alive thousands of miles away in a village in southern Spain with a horrifying story of kidnap and torture. His family is overjoyed to bring him home. But all is not quite as it seems. The boy bears many of the same distinguishing marks he always did, but why does he now have a strange accent? Why does he look so different? And why doesn’t the family seem to notice these glaring inconsistencies? It’s only when an investigator starts asking questions that this strange tale takes an even stranger turn…
