Billy Connolly Cast in Peter Jackson's THE HOBBIT

Peter Jackson is currently in the middle of shooting his two Hobbit films, but the cast continues to grow with the addition of actor Billy Connolly. He will take on the role of the great dwarf warrior Dain Ironfoot, who is a cousin of Thorin Oakenshield. Jackson had this to say in a statement:

We could not think of a more fitting actor to play Dain Ironfoot, the staunchest and toughest of Dwarves, than Billy Connolly, the Big Yin himself. With Billy stepping into this role, the cast of The Hobbit is now complete. We can’t wait to see him on the Battlefield!

Connolly is an awesome choice to take on this role, the guy is just a hard old tough-as-nails badass. For those of you not familiar with the man's work, he's been in films such asThe Last Samurai, Boondock Saints, and X-Files: I Want to Believe. He's perfect for the role of Dain Ironfoot.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, will be released on December 14th, 2012 and the second film, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, will be released on December 13th, 2013.

What are your thoughts on Connolly being cast in The Hobbit?
