Here's our first look at Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean in full costume from the set of director Tom Hooper's (Kings Speech) big screen adaptation of the Broadway musical Les Miserables. He looks like he going through hell. They must be filming scenes from early on in the story when Valjean is in prison.
The story follows Jean Valjean (Jackman), who is on the run from his nemesis, Inspector Javert, played by Russell Crowe. The film also stars Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, and Samantha Barks.
The script for the film was written by William Nicholson, and yes, this will be the musical version. The musical's original producer, Cameron Mackintosh, is producing the film as well. The original score by composer Claude-Michel Schoenberg will be used for the film, and he even has has written a new song for Jackman to sing in the movie.
As a fan of the musical, I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Les Miserables is scheduled to hit theaters on December 15th, 2012.
