Marc Webb Reveals Changes to the Origin of Spider-Man

It looks like Marc Webb and Sony Pictures have completely revamped the origin story of Spider-Man in the upcoming film The Amazing Spider-Man. The fact that they made changes really isn't new, but until today we've only heard bits an pieces of the changes that were made. In a recent interview Webb reveals a few things about the origin that you'll be interested in hearing.

First off he talks bout how the story behind Peter Parker's parents will be told throughout the course of a few movies explaining,

I wanted to give the audience something new, so that started off with getting underneath the parents' story, which will unfold over probably a few movies. We don't totally wrap up that story in this first movie. It's sort of an ongoing mystery. That was something that was interesting to me.

I could see something much bigger brewing there. It will obviously play a big role in the all-around story. It think it's great that he's exploring Parker's parents, why not? The director then goes on to talk about what drives Parker to becoming Spider-Man, and how the motivation behind it is different than what we've come to know,

This is probably a reveal, but there is no wrestling match in this movie. The character is evolving in a different way. It's about finding a balance between iconic elements of the 'Spider-Man' mythology—like how Uncle Ben's death transforms him emotionally—but it happens in a different way.

He then goes on to make a big reveal and possible Spoiler that about the Spider that bites Spider-Man,

He's bitten by a spider, but maybe it's not a radioactive spider. Or maybe it is! You'll have to see. There are elements that we were very conscious of, but it all emanated from [the idea of] this kid who got left behind by his parents many, many years before. I thought that was interesting enough for me to explore.

As a fan of Spider-Man, I want you to know that I trust this property in the hands of Webb, and he's going to give a very exciting and different take on the character that I'm looking forward to. He's bringing something special to this character, and I hope the fans of the comic can appreciate what he's trying to do. Of course there's going to be a lot of fans that wont like what he's doing, but at least give it shot. This really is looking like it could be an incredible movie.

What do you think about what Webb had to say?
