A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD - New Story Details Revealed
Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney are teaming up as father and son in the upcoming fifth installment of the Die Hard franchise, A Good Day to Die Hard. The movie is set to be directed by John Moore (Max Payne). Fox CEO Tom Rothman has been talking about the movie and offering us some more details on what we can expect to see.
The story will introduce John McLain's estranged son, John "Jack" McClaine, and according to Rothman, the dynamic between father and son is going to be "very kick-ass."
The fun part about it though, A Good Day To Die Hard -- and there's a great moment where he says, 'It's as good a day as any to die' -- but it's really a father/son story,. He thinks his kid is a screw up, but it's actually the opposite. The kid is more like the father than the father. Like all the best of the classic Die Hards, it's very emotionally driven, and very kick ass.
I'm really hoping the movie is more like the first three Die Hard movies and less like the fourth one. It was fun, but it didn't feel like a Die Hard movie to me. Rothman goes on to say the film will mostly be set in Russia saying,
It's all set in Russia -- well, there's bookend scenes in New York. But it's John McClaine goes to Russia and I think the technical term -- which I don’t know if you can say on MTV, maybe you can -- is he f--ks everything up.
In a seperate interview with Collider he discusses the same stuff, but kind of goes into a little be more detail on the story saying,
I love this one. It’s called A Good Day to Die Hard, and two things make it new: 1. John McClane, the ultimate American hero, goes to Russia. So talk about a fish out of water, he’s completely out of water. And 2. It’s really a father-son story, which is that John McClane’s been a great cop his whole life but he’s been a pretty lousy father. He has a grown son who he’s not really been in much touch with, and McClane thinks the son’s a fuck up—that’s a technical term.
He then reveals why McClaine goes to Russia in the first place,
So he goes to Russia, he thinks, to bail his son out of jail, and it turns out the son’s not a fuck up, he’s the antithesis of that. In fact, the apple has not fallen far from the tree, the apple has not fallen from the tree, which is that the son is a badder ass John McClane than John McClane.
Sounds like it could be fun. They're obviously setting up more Die Hard films with McClaine's son leading the charge. A Good Day To Die Hard is scheduled to hit theaters on February 14, 2013. Are you looking forward to seeing a fifth Die Hard film explode on the big screen?
