Here's our first look at a new film called Spring Breakers, which stars James Franco, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, Rachel Korine, and Vanessa Hudgens. Like Hudgens, it looks like Gomez is trying to shed those Disney clothes that she's become associated with. Here's what she had to say in the interview that came along with the pictures:
I was getting kind of repetitive in terms of the roles I was picking, and I really wanted to do something that was completely different. It was a mark thing for me—like, ‘This is what I want to be doing.' I want to be taking myself seriously as an actress, and this was definitely a stretch. I mean, I'd never smoked a cigarette before in my entire life. It was really funny—they had to show me how to do it.
The story follows four college girls, "who land in jail after robbing a restaurant in order to fund their spring break vacation." They then find themselves being "bailed out by a drug and arms dealer (Franco) who wants them to do some dirty work. Drugs, sex, and violence ensue."
The movie was written and directed by Harmony Korine (Kids), and I have no idea what to expect. It looks and sounds like it's going to be a dirty film though. One thing for sure is that none of the young tween fans of these actresses are going to be able to see this movie. Benson, who stars in the TV series Pretty Little Liars, had this to say:
Harmony wanted to break us all out of the good-girl mold. For Selena, Vanessa, and me, our audience is all in their teens or younger, so they're not even going to be able to see this when it comes out—it's not appropriate.
So there you have it. Are you a fan of Korine's work, and will you be seeing this?
