Lionsgate has released the first trailer for their new horror thiller The Possession, which stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport and Natasha Calis. The movie was produced by Sam Raimi, directed by Ole Bornedal and written by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White (Boogeyman, Knowing). The movie was originally called Dibbuk Box.
The film was inspired by a true story that was told in a Los Angeles Times article called Jinx in a Box. The story follows the events that happened to Clyde Breneck and his 10-year-old daughter Em, after they purchase an antique box at a yard sale. In the real-life story, Em actually bought the box on Ebay. After Em opens up the box she accidentally releases an ancient spirit that has one goal: to devour her. Her father must work with his ex-wife to put an end to the curse.
I won't lie... the trailer has got some genuinely creepy moments that horror movie fans will enjoy. I think it looks like it could be a great horror film, and I'm looking forward to seeing it!
Here's the synopsis:
Clyde and Stephanie Brenek see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.
Check out the trailer and let us know if it looks like a good horror flick to you.
