Guillermo del Toro's PACIFIC RIM gets an Official Story Synopsis!

We've only heard bits and pieces about what Guillermo del Toro's epic monster movie Pacific Rim would be about. Today we have a story synopsis to share with you that gives us a solid rundown of the story for the movie. This comes from MarketSaw who knows a source close to the director that says, "This isn’t quite what you’re expecting. In a good way." And if you're going to Comic-Con you can expect to see some of the first footage from the film there!

The script for Pacific Rim was written by Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans), and it stars Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Idris Elba (Thor), Rinko Kikuchi (The Brothers Bloom), Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses), and Ron Perlman (Hellboy). The ensemble cast also includes Max Martini, Robert Kazinsky, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff, and Brad William Henke.

Here's the official story description:

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Sounds like it's going to be pretty freakin' Badass! I can't wait to see some footage from the film! You can read a more detailed description of the film and its characters here. Warner Bros. will release the movie on July 12th, 2013.
