Iron Man 3 is currently in production with Shane Black at the helm. I'm excited to see Tony Stark back in action, and according to Marvel President Kevin Feige, this will be the best Iron Man film out of the three. He recently did an interview with Empire Magazine in which he addressed several topics about the third film such as Stark's alcoholism, Robert Downey Jr.'s contract being up and the chances of seeing Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner in the film and also teases the unannounced 2014 Marvel movie.
On Stark's alcoholism:
He's not an alcoholic in the movies. Maybe one day that's a deeper story, but we're not going to do it unless we can make it a full-focused plot.
He goes on to say that this will be the best film of the Iron Man trilogy. It may not match the epic scale of The Avengers, but it's still going to be awesome! Feige explains...
It's a fool's errand to continue to try to top spectacle. We don't equate bigger with better. It's Tony's most personal journey since he was trapped in a cave in the first half of the first movie, but it'll also have the largest spectacle of any of the Iron Man movies.
Iron Man 3 is the final film Downey Jr. is under contract to make. After this, who knows if he'll be back to reprise his role as Stark. I hope he comes back and so does Feige. The questions I have are will Marvel pay him what he's worth now? And does Downey Jr. want to keep making them?
I hope we will see more of his Tony Stark in the future, but the focus right now is on Iron Man 3.
It seemed like everyone loved Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner / Hulk in The Avengers, I especially liked the relationship he and Stark had in the film. It would be awesome to see Banner show up in the next Iron Man film, but as cool as it would be, it doesn't sound like it's going to happen. But Feige did say,
We will see the Ruffalo Hulk in future. I don't know when or how, exactly, but he's an interesting character, and so many new avenues have opened up. But now in the movies, who's gonna pop up where? You're never quite sure.
One of the most interesting parts of this interview didn't really have anything to do with Iron Man 3, but he teases the unannounced 2014 mystery Marvel movie revealing the following,
Our next step, will be to introduce a character outside the Avengers' world.
A character outside of the Avengers world? That's cool! Does that mean Ant-Man is out? If so, then what character is in? Any guesses?
