Timur Bekmambetov Directing THE CURRENT WAR
Timur Bekmambetov’s incredible looking film Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter comes out this summer, and the director has lined up his next project titled The Current War. The movie was scripted by Michael Mitnick and it was on the 2011 Black List of best unproduced screenplays.
According to Deadline, the story "chronicles the true-life public battle fought between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse for domination of the early power industry." I've always found Edison to be an interesting historical figure, the guy was a cutthroat. Not only was there Westinghouse, but he was also at war with Nikola Tesla.
This era in history with Edison and Westinghouse was referred to as the 'War of the Currents' or 'Battle of Currents.' It took place in the late 1880s, and the two became adversaries due to Edison's promotion of direct current (DC) for electric power distribution over alternating current (AC) which was advocated by several European companies and Westinghouse Electric.
This kind of stuff surrounding history is extremely interesting to me so I think this should turn out to be a solid movie. It's also different from anything Bekmambetov has done before. What do you think about Bekmambetov taking on this historical subject matter?
