Disney Makes Pitch Deal for STUFF OF LEGEND

Movie Disney by Ben Pearson

Now this is the kind of movie people can get excited about. According to Deadline, Disney just made a pitch deal for a movie called Stuff of Legend, set to be directed by commercial director Pete Candeland (who was recently tasked with bringing Mr. Toad's Wild Ride to the big screen).

So what's the film about? If you've ever read Bill Willingham's Fables, it sounds kind of similar. Based on the graphic novel by Mike Raicht & Brian Smith, the story goes like this:

A young boy in 1944 is abducted by the Boogeyman, dragged by the ankles into the closet realm known as The Dark. The boy’s puppy rallies his toys to follow his master in a rescue mission. Once in the closet, each of those toys become menacingly large and agile creatures who engage in a war with the Boogeyman’s forces. Those armies are comprised of the other toys stored in the closet, a mix medieval knights, cowboys and toy soldiers.

They're looking to make a live action film set in a CGI world similar to Burton's Alice in Wonderland, and hopefully Candeland (who has made his mark with exceptional visuals so far) can bring a fresh look to the creatures and universe they create for the movie.

This sounds like a project that might be just a touch too dark for the family-friendly Mouse House, but still - in a world where Isaac Newton is getting turned into an action hero, I'd much rather see something visually compelling and imaginative as a blockbuster. We'll see how this one turns out, but I'm holding out hope that it could be something special.

What do you think about the concept behind Stuff of Legend? Sound good to you?
