Jenna Malone up for Johanna Mason Role in CATCHING FIRE

We can now add actress Jenna Malone (Sucker Punch, Donnie Darko) to the list of actresses up for the role of Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) and Zoe Aggeliki (model/actress R.I.P.D.) were previously mentioned as being up for the role. Out of the three choices we have so far, I think Malone could be the best one. Not only is she a solid actress, but as we've seen, she can kick some ass.

Here's a description of the look of the character:

Johanna is described as having wide-set brown eyes. In Catching Fire, Johanna has spiky brown hair. In Mockingjay, she returns from the Capitol with a shaved head after being tortured by them but eventually grows pieces of her hair back, where the perspiration from her forehead made her hair form spikes. She is also very muscular and tan.

Of course, whoever ends up in the role will be transformed to match this character as closely as they can. Here's some additional information on the character for those of you not familiar:

Johanna Mason is the female victor of an unidentified Games from District 7. She also gets reaped for the third Quarter Quell. She was one of the youngest tributes in the Quarter Quell. She is the last living female victor of District 7, whose principal industry is lumber.

In her original Hunger Games, Johanna pretended to be a weakling, feigning hunger and fatigue, when in reality she was sly and cunning, described by Katniss as having a "wicked ability to murder". Johanna is proficient with axes, as she comes from District 7, where the main industry is lumber. It is hinted in Catching Fire that all of Johanna's loved ones were killed by President Snow and the Capitol after her Games, as she tells Katniss that there is "no one left [she] loves." This is then confirmed in Mockingjay by Finnick Odair.

The movie is being directed by Francis Lawrence and moves into production later this year. Do you think Malone would make decent choice for the role? EW asks an interesting question about the character... Will the director keep her introduction from the book, in which she first meets Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence)... naked? I don't think it's out of the question, they can easily do a back body shot and keep the PG-13 rating.

Here's the description of the story of The Hunger Games sequel:

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.

The film will hit theaters on November 22nd, 2013.
