Marvel's Secret 2014 Movie has Been Revealed!
For those of you who have been anxiously waiting to find out what the secret Marvel movie is for 2014, we finally have the answer for you thanks to our friends at Latino Review, and it's not disappointing at all.
Marvel is developing Guardians of the Galaxy! This was one of those Marvel properties that was definitely in the running, and it's not really surprising that it ended up being one of the films. Just a few days ago we learned that Marvel filed eleven new trademark applications for the film property, so we knew it was coming. Then before that, Marvel president Kevin Feige talked about the adaptation confirming that the movie would portray the modern incarnation of the team, which includes such intergalactic superheroes as Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Groot and Rocket Raccoon.
This even helps explain the end credits scene in The Avengers with Thanos a little better, because Thanos will be in Guardians of the Galaxy! That's right, they teased this new movie at the end of The Avengers. It was also revealed that it will help lead up to The Avengers 2 in 2015! Marvel will officially announce the movie at Comic-Con 2012.
Here's a break down of what has been revealed so far...
One: The end credits scene at the end of The Avengers was both a teaser for Avengers 2 AND Guardians of the Galaxy.
Two: The Guardians being added to the Unified Universe means the theorhetical chronological order of Marvel Unified Movie Universe Phase 2 is: Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2, Guardians of the Galaxy. Hulk gets the shaft.
Three: If I were to point you in the direction of a comic to read to theorize what Guardians of the Galaxy would be about, I’d suggest you go buy The Thanos Imperative.
Four: Nova. Expect Nova. There’s got to be a reason that Nova keeps showing up in stuff like Disney’s Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel’s AvX. He’s not a Guardian per se, but he’s the most recognizable Marvel space character to the all-important “we’re young and buy toys” demographic.
The story of the suggested comic, The Thanos Imparative, focuses on the Guardians of the Galaxy, who band together to combat the imminent threat of The Fault, which is a rift in space-time formed at the end of War of Kings, and the Cancerverse that lies beyond it, which is a universe where death itself is extinct.
This is very exciting news! I can't wait to see who they will bring on to direct the movie and who'll they cast in it. Marvel has a fantastic track record so far, so I have faith that whatever they have planned for this movie is going to be amazing!
What do you all think about Guardians of the Galaxy being one of the secret Marvel film projects? What would you like to see them do with it? Who would you want to see direct it?
Here's a more detailed description of the story:
While the Guardians of the Galaxy watch over the newly resurrected and imprisoned Thanos and Nova pursues the false Quasar, the Magus and the Universal Church of Truth tear open the Fault (opened at the end of the War of Kings and previously sealed by Adam Warlock). Monstrous creatures emerge from the Fault and are confronted by the Kree and Shi'ar armadas and numerous cosmic beings. Among them is their leader, Lord Mar Vell, who is an alternate version of Captain Marvel. Mar Vell kills the Magus for failing to locate Thanos.
Mar Vell is the avatar of Life, and Thanos is the avatar of Death. Because of this, the battle will only be over when one of them kills the other. While Star-Lord leads the Guardians and Thanos into the Fault hoping to locate Lord Mar Vell, Lord Mar Vell scoures the Marvel Universe for Thanos. Nova leads Quasar, Beta Ray Bill, Gladiator, the Silver Surfer and Ronan the Accuser in an attack on Mar Vell, but loses badly. When Thanos kills Drax the destroyer, his death as the avatar of life alerts Mar Vell to his prescence and he returns to the cancerverse.
When Mar Vell confronts Thanos and the Guardians, everyone is surprised when Thanos immediately surrenders. As he willingly prepares to be sacrificed by Mar Vell, he muses about how the Captain Marvel he knew never considered the consequences of his actions, either. Mar Vell realizes he has been tricked just as Death, summoned by Thanos's death, arrives to claim him. This causes a chain reaction that kills Mar Vell's followers and triggers the collapse of the alternate universe and the Fault. Thanos, expecting Death to embrace him for his actions, becomes enraged when she once again spurns him. Teleporting the rest of their comrades to safety, Star Lord and Nova remain behind to contain Thanos by keeping him within the Cancerverse until its imminent destruction.
A memorial service is held for those lost in the conflicts. Quasar informs Rocket Raccoon that without Nova, Worldmind has shut down and the Nova Force disappeared. Still reeling from the struggle, the Kree Empire on Hala is assailed by the forces of Blastaar in a bid for easy conquest. During the battle, Ronan is aided by the other surviving members of Nova's strike force. Under Cosmo's guidance, they set up base in Knowhere. The newly-christened "Annihilators" are proposing they be a loose-knit force to be implemented only as the "last resort." Abruptly, Ikon of the Spaceknights materializes in their midst, proclaiming urgency in her errand and asking where to find "this team [she is] supposed to lead".
