SDCC '12: SILENT HILL: REVELATIONS Panel Description and Clips

In my opinion, the first Silent Hill movie was one of the best video game adaptations ever made. They captured the dark and twisted vision of this world perfectly! For the most part, it seemed like the fans of the game liked the movie. It's awesome that a sequel to that movie has been made! It's called Silent Hill: Revelations, and I got to see the first footage from this film today in 3D. Unfortunately, it did nothing to impress me, and that pisses me off!

The movie was directed by Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane, Deathwatch), and stars Sean Bean (Game Of Thrones, Lord Of The Rings), Deborah Kara Unger (The Game, 88 minutes), Radha Mitchell (Man On Fire, The Crazies), Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins), Kit Harington (Game Of Thrones), Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange).

Here's are the descriptions of two disappointing clips we were shown...

The first clip showed a creepy looking mannequin monster chasing around two of the films main characters. It might be a scary scene to anyone who's not used to watching horror movies. But it fell flat for me and the audience.

The second clip included a guy strapped down on a metal hospital table in a rusty looking operating room surrounded by those evil ass nurses that come after you slicing their knives if you move. He eventually escapes with the help of the female lead. You can actually watch it below thanks to IGN...

They explained after that these were the only two PG-13 clips they could find to show to Hall H. They said the rest of it is incredibly hardcore and blood soaked like the game and the first film, but they wouldn't show it because of the young kids in Hall H. I wish to hell they would have shown more hardcore stuff, they would have gotten a better response from me and the audience. That's the stuff the fans wanted to see!

As for the footage we saw, as you can see for yourself the acting and dialogue is just as bad or good as the video game depending on how you look at it.

Throughout the panel they teased an exciting reveal at the end of the panel. When the end of the panel came they revealed that their would be a Silent Hill maze coming to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. I was expecting something a little cooler, and it seemed to fall flat with crowed.

As a fan of this franchise and the horror genre, I'm sad to say that this panel sucked and failed to impress me. I can only hope that the movie doesn't end up being as disappointing as the panel.

Here's the synopsis:

Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father (Bean) have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. On the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrificnightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.
