GANGSTER SQUAD To Be Delayed and Possibly Re-Edited

Movie Gangster Squad by Joey Paur

Due to this weekends Dark Knight Rises shooting in Aurora, Colorado, Warner Bros. is discussing plans to delay the release of Ruben Fleischer's Gangster Squad. There's also the possibility of them re-editing it. The trailer has already been pulled from theaters.

If you've seen the trailer that was released then you know the reason why. There's a scene that features a group of mobsters who open fire on a theater audience from behind a movie screen. The gunfire rips through the theater screen while a movie is playing as a terrified audience rushes for the exits and police try to stop the mayhem.

I can see how that would upset people. According to the LA Times,

Studio executives are discussing the possibilities of pushing the release date and re-cutting the film to minimize the theater shooting scene or remove it altogether, according to two knowledgeable people not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

I understand why Warner Bros. is having this conversation, and if they decide to re-edit or delay it I will stand behind it. I will also stand behind them if they decide not to make any changes. I just hate to give this shooter the satisfaction of living in fear. The times goes on to say,

Cutting the scene won't be an easy task. It serves as a climactic moment, and even shortening it could hurt the noir action film's narrative arc. As a result, any significant changes might require shooting new scenes.

We'll find out soon enough what the studio will do, but I'm sure they'll figure it all out. If you have any thoughts on the matter please share it below.
