Olympics Opening Ceremony Shout Out To LORD OF THE RINGS?

While the jury is still out on whether or not Danny Boyle effectively captured the essence of Great Britain, there is no denying the pop culture references in the show itself. Is it possible though that there could have been subliminal references we weren't even aware of? This imgur user seems to think there were quite a few references to Lord of The Rings! After looking at these pictures, I might have to agree!
