It sounds like Iron Man 3 is going to give Tony Stark a lot more to deal with than just fighting a big armored villain at the the end. Robert Downey Jr. briefly talked to Entertainment weekly about the next Marvel film, and he told them that he "radically wants to challenge Stark's identity, rather than just have him battle another bad guy."
Now that's what I'm talking about! As much as I liked the first two Iron Man movies, I'd like to see Stark take on a greater challenge in the end. He can't always fight an armored villain at the end of the movie, that's already getting old. The actor then goes on to talk about the film's third act saying,
These things tend to, in Act 3, really become about the same old things. So let's really flip that. I feel like I don't know where you go after Iron Man 3. Leave it all on the field, you know?
This is the last Iron Man movie that Downey Jr. is contracted to do for Marvel, but I hope to hell he comes back to reprise his role in later films. He's had a huge hand in crafting Stark and who he will become in Iron Man 3. I hope that means he plans on sticking around a little longer, unless he's prepping the character to hand off to another actor, which we all know will eventually happen.
We'll all find out a little bit more about Iron Man 3 at the Comic-Con panel taking place on Saturday, July 14th from 6:00pm – 7:00pm in Hall H. I can't wait to see some of the first footage from this movie!
What do you think about what Downey Jr. had to say about what they want to do with Stark in this film?
