Michael Fassbender to Star in ASSASSIN'S CREED!

X-Men: First Class and Prometheus star Michael Fassbender is set to star in and produce a feature film adaptation of the hit Ubisoft video game Assassin's Creed! I honestly couldn't think of anyone better to take on this role and film production.

I'm a big fan of this franchise, and I think we all knew that one day it would get its big screen debut. CEO of Paris-based Ubisoft Motion Pictures, Jean-Julien Baronnet, had this to say in a statement.

Michael Fassbender was our first choice Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.

According to Variety Ubisoft will develop the film independently so that they can keep creative control of the project. By doing this they hope they will be able to develop an awesome video game adaptation that doesn't suck. As you know most video game feature film adaptations don't turn out very well. I think Ubisoft is making the right move, and I'm excited as hell to see how this turns out!

Now that Fassbender is on board, Ubisoft is out looking for a writer and director to attach to the project so they can start shopping it around to studio distributors. In this case it will most likely end up being Sony Pictures.

The plot of the game revolves around a man who learns his ancestors were trained assassins after he is kidnapped by a secret org with ties to the Knights Templar, and sent back in time to retrieve historical artifacts.

Ubisoft is also looking to develop films for the games Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon.

What do you think about Fassbender taking on Assassin's Creed?!
