BLOODSTRIKE Comic Getting Big Screen Adaptation
Rob Liefeld's comic book Bloodstrike is getting a feature film adaptation from Adi Shankar's 1984 Private Defense Contractors. The comic was published by Image Comics in 1993, and its creator will write the script and produce the film.
According to Variety Liefeld (who also created Deadpool) has a new angle for the big screen version of his comic, "aimed at creating a franchise appeal, focuses on a Bloodstrike unit consisting of a team of super-soldiers who have secretly been imbued with vampire blood -- making them an elite strike force feared by all enemies." Now it's been awhile since I've read this comic, but I believe the vampire angle is new, but I guess it makes sense and fits with the original story. I just hate that everyone seems to be jumping on this vampire bandwagon. The more vampire movies that are made, the less cool they become.
In the original comic, Bloodstrike is a top-secret, super-powered assassination squad deployed covertly by the United States government. All of the members had already died before becoming members of the team; they were brought back to life by the government's Project: Born Again, which is apparently where they bring them back to life with Vampire blood.
The same production company making this movie is the same one that is doing that all female Expendables movie, and co-financed The Grey. I wasn't the biggest fan of this comic, but I still hope that it turns out to be an awesome movie.
