DAREDEVIL gets a Director and Marvel Wants Galactus from Fox

There's some interesting things going on between Fox and Marvel. If Fox doesn't start production on their Daredevil reboot by October 10th, they will lose the rights and revert back over to Marvel. But... it looks like Marvel is willing to extend those rights, they just want something in return.

As of right now, Fox is trying to push Daredevil forward as fast as they can, and are in negotiations with A-Team director Joe Carnahan to develop the Daredevil reboot. They plan on making a darker version of the character with this next film described by Variety as a "Frank Miller-esque, hardcore 70s thriller" take on blind Hell's Kitchen superhero Matt Murdock. Carnahan's involvement isn't officially set in stone, but he's the studio's top choice, and they are making progress in the discussions.

So what happens if Fox can't get things up and running in time? According to sources Marvel will give Fox more time to make Daredevil, in return Marvel wants to use some characters from the Fantastic Four universe. The characters they want include the epic world-devouring supervillain Galactus, which will most likely play a key role in future Marvel films. They are also looking to use Silver Surfer as well, who in the comics brokered a deal to serve as Galactus' herald in order to save his home planet. Both the movie rights for these characters are currently owned by Fox.

Whatever happens from here rests in the hands of Fox, and talks between the two studios are expected to continue later this week. I really hope that Fox ends up making a deal with Marvel. I'd love to see what they have in store for these characters in future films! I'm also very interested in seeing what Carnahan's plans are for Daredevil. I've enjoyed Carnahan's movies, which most recently included The Grey with Liam Neeson.

What do you think about Carnahan directing Daredevil and the deal Marvel wants to strike with Fox?
