TRANSFORMERS 4 to Introduce New Cast of Robot Characters

Movie Transformers by Joey Paur

Michael Bay is prepping to bring us a fourth Transformers movie that will set up the franchise for a whole new set of films. It was recently revealed that the plan for part 4 is to completely revamp the Transformer designs and make the robots the main attraction. Today we've learned that there will also be a whole new cast of robot characters.

The news comes from President and Chief Executive Officer of Hasbro, Brian Goldner, who says that Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon did well at the box office, but Hasbro didn't sell many toys, and their main business is selling toys. Goldner explains,

This is why Transformers 4 will have a new cast of [robot] characters, and it will be a story revolving around these new characters.

They obviously feel that if they introduce new characters they will sell more toys. I don't think that's really issue though. I just think they need to start making quality toys, because those Transformers toys they've been selling are cheaply built, and break easy. Why do parents want to buy therir kids toys that break easy? They don't make them like they used to. Here's what Bay had to say about Transformers 4 in a previous interview,

It’s not a reboot, that’s maybe the wrong word. I don’t want to say reboot because then people will think we’re doing a Spider-Man and starting from the beginning. We’re not. We’re taking the story that you’ve seen — the story we’ve told in three movies already — and we’re taking it in a new direction. But we’re leaving those three as the history. It all still counts. I met with the writer before I went off to do ‘Pain and Gain’ and we talked about a bunch of ideas. We let that simmer for a bit. He’s been thinking about stuff and now we’re getting back together next week to see what we’ve got and to see if it gels.

When asked if he was thinking of taking the story into space, Bay replied,

I think so, yeah, a little. That feels like the way to go, doesn’t it? I want to go a little off but I don’t want to go too sci-fi. I still want to keep it grounded. That’s what works in these movies, that’s what makes it accessible.

Ehren Kruger is currently writing the screenplay, and Paramount Pictures is planning to release it on June 27th, 2014. What do you think about Transformers 4 introducing a bunch of new robot characters?
