THOR: THE DARK WORLD and The Nine Realms

Very early on in the process of setting up Thor 2, before it was given the title Thor: The Dark World we knew Marvel was planning on implementing the nine other worlds of Norse mythology and the Marvel Comics universe. Over a year ago Marvel President Kevin Feige explained,

Take Thor literally to other worlds. Primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father (Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins) is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds.

We haven't heard much about The Nine Worlds in Thor 2 since Feige brought it up, until today when it was brought up again on the Russian website Kinopoisk. Here's a rough translation of what they are reporting from the Russian Cinema Expo,

The film promises to cover not just the Earth and Asgard, but the entire Nine Realms. The studio hopes that 'Game of Thrones' director Alan Taylor has the experience to build upon the fantasy of the series.

In the first Thor movie we were taken to Asgard (Thor's Home), Midgard (Earth) and Jotunheim (Frost Giants). Since the Dark Elves are involved with the sequel we'll definitley see their world Svartalheim. We have yet to find out how the other five worlds will play into the story. Those other worlds include Alfeim (Light Elves' realm), Hel (Realm of the dead), Muspelheim (Demon realm), Nidavellir (Dwarven realm) and Vanaheim (Asgard's sister-realm).

I can't wait to see how they pull this off! I'm sure Taylor will do a fine job expanding the universe of Thor. Above you'll find Marvel's original map of the Nine Worlds. The movie is set to be released on November 8th, 2013.
