Joseph Gordon-Levitt has officially signed on to star in Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. He will play a smooth talking gambler named Johnny, a role which was originally offered to Johnny Depp.
The character is one of the core characters in the overlapping story lines. Gordon-Levitt joins Rosario Dawson, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Clive Owen, and Jamie King who are reprising their roles from the first film. Then there's Jamie Chung and Dennis Haysbert who are replacing Devon Aoki and Michael Clarke Duncan. Deadline also says that Bruce Willis is coming back, and that Josh Brolin might end up joining the film as well.
The same report also reveals that Gordon-Levitt will not be joining Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Sin City 2 is already shooting, and it will be the next film that he makes.
I'm sure the actor will end up being awesome in the movie. Rodriguez is also still looking to fill the lead female character originally offered to Angelina Jolie.
The plot for Sin City 2 comes from the stories A Dame To Kill For, Just Another Saturday Night, and a new one Frank Miller wrote called The Long, Bad Night, which apparently centers on Alba's character Nancy Callahan who will be the connection between the two films.
The movie is set to be released on October 4th, 2013.
