Since Ewan McGregor found out that Lucasfilm was making stand alone Star Wars films, he's been thinking of some ideas for an Obi-Wan spin-off! This could be the greatest or most boring idea for a Star Wars film depending on how you look at it, but he wants to focus on the character in the years between the two trilogies with Obi-Wan hanging out in the desert of Tatoonie. Here's what he told MTV in a recent interview,
I think it's a good idea. The only bit that I could get away with doing is after the last one I made, 'Episode III,' before Alec Guinness [played Obi-Wan in the original films], there's that period where he's in the desert.
That might be my window, there, to tell that story. I don't know what he did in the desert. We could make up some stuff. Could be quite exciting. I'd be up for it, for sure, of course.
For those of you wondering what could be so exciting about Obi-Wan in the desert other than fighting off Tuskan Raiders whenever they came around, or hanging out in the bar in Mos Eisley... that's just it! That's a great idea, and a great setting for a really cool old-school style Star Wars western, with Obi-Wan as the Wizard/Cowboy.
I'm sure Lucasfilm is considering making a standalone Obi-Wan spin-off movie, and I would love to see McGregor reprise his role. This could be a really exciting and awesome film if they did it right. Here's a little bit of background info on the character that tells us what he did in the desert from an article called Obi-Wan Kenobi: Wizard of the Desert, which would make a great title for the movie! Look it over and let us know if you think this would make a good Star Wars standalone movie!
