Leonardo DiCaprio is joining forces with the legendary Tom Hanks to develop an HBO movie based on former Soviet Union president Mikhail Gorbachev.
Gorbachev was the president of the Soviet Union from 1988 until the union’s dissolution in 1991. He ushered democracy into the Soviet block by introducing glasnost and perestroika and helped end the Cold War. According to the report, the film will focus on the dissolution of the USSR through the eyes of the Soviet leader.
The script for the movie was written former Hell On Wheels showrunner John Shiban. Both Gorbachev and his long-time aide Pavel Palazhchenko will serve as consultants on the film project. There's some serious talent behind this film, and they got an awesome network backing it up, so I'm sure it will turn out great.
This will be the first project that DiCaprio and Hanks have collaborated on since they made Steven Spielberg's Catch Me if You Can in 2002.
