Arnold Schwarzenegger in Talks to Join TOXIC AVENGER
Here's a bit of entertainment casting news that completely came out of left field. Arnold Schwarzenegger is in talks to join the remake of the terribly fantastic 1980's cult film Toxic Avenger. I'm still not sure why this film is being remade, but if Schwarzenegger is on board, it's going to make it a hell of a lot more interesting. At the same time... is this really what the actor has resorted to? He's up for a lead role in the movie, but it isn't the Toxic Avenger. At one point John Travota was rumored to be up for a part, but thank goodness that didn't happen.
Two years ago it was announced that Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine) would direct the film, and it looks like he's still attached to helm it from a script that he co-wrote with Daniel C. Mitchell. Pink had this to say in a previous statement,
The Toxic Avenger is exactly what the country--wait, that's not big enough--what the world needs right now.
Story centers around a man named Melvin Ferd III, a 98-pound weakling who gets transformed into a superhuman crime-fighting creature after falling into a vat of toxic waste. The plan is turn it into a family movie franchise, that is an environmentally conscious action-comedy.
Schwarzenegger most recently appeared in Lionsgate’s The Last Stand, which I enjoyed. The next film we'll see him in is David Ayer’s action thriller Ten.
