John C. Reilly up for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and More Info
Director James Gunn is hard at work prepping up to shoot Guardians for the Galaxy for Marvel, and we've got a lot of new details for you thanks to Hitfix. Some of those details include new info on the villain, as well as Rocket Raccoon, Michael Rooker's character, Lee Pace's character, and the possible addition of John C. Reilly. Here are the points of interest...
Possible SPOILERS ahead:
Rocket Raccoon! It's being reported that he and his partner Wal Russ (a talking walrus) will be introduced in the film as guards at The Keystone Quadrant, an intergalactic asylum for the criminally insane.
Rooker's character Yondu Udonta is said to be the films main villain, which is interesting because I believe he's one of the founding members of the Guardians of the Galaxy team.
Pace's character is going to be a villain, which we already knew. What we didn't know is that the villain will eventually switch sides an be a good guy, which will set him up for a possible spin-off film. The site suggests characters such as Nova, Adam Warlock, or Mar-Vel aka Captain Marvel.
John C. Reilly is wanted for the role of Rhomann Dey. Marvel has made an offer and if he takes it he will play a big part in the Marvel universe. The say that the character has "been designed as the Agent Coulson of the "Guardians" movies. He's the human agent who serves as a go-between, keeping the Guardians in line and reporting to SHIELD about their activities." This is a very different take on the character than what we know of him in the comics. In the comics he's the leader of the Nova Corps, and he's not human. But Reilly should be great in the role if he takes it.
Hugh Laurie, Alan Rickman, and Ken Watanabe are also being looked at to play a pier of Dey, and a liaison for the Guardians.
This movie is going to be very different from any Marvel film that has been made so far. I'm looking forward to it because it's going to be amazing. Marvel is definitely making the Marvel cinematic universe its own thing separate from the comics. They are changing a lot of things, which I'm ok with. I'm a huge Marvel fan, and I know these changes aren't going to sit well with some people, but I guess it might be something they'll just have to live with whether they like it or not.
The movie arrives in theaters August 1st, 2014, and I'm still convinced that Rocket Raccoon is going to steal the show.
