BLADE Back at Marvel: Reboot? And With Whom?
While there are no official plans yet, a betting man could wager that Marvel will eventually be moving forward with rebooting its recently regained franchises. Out of Punisher, Ghost Rider, and Daredevil, none has reached quite the financial success achieved by the Blade series. Wesley Snipes has been out of jail since April and is already back in acting, and reportedly in talks for Expendables 3. I'm sure he'd be good to sign on, but does Marvel need him?
You might say, "Of course. HE IS BLADE." Exactly my thoughts when I first thought of the question. When people think of a sword wielding vampire hunter, he's the guy that enters everyone's mind...well at least most our minds.
The original movie came out in 1998, and while there were sequels, today's Jon Smith 18 year old (born in 1995) might never have seen the film or be able to tell you much about the Marvel hero. Maybe I'm wrong. I saw Spiderman when I was 13, and ten years later they've already rebooted on me, so I don't see a continuation of the current franchise of movies.
What does dated have to do with Snipes? Nothing really, but it's really hard to start off a new franchise with the same lead actor that was there from the beginning. As much as I love him in the role, I don't think Hollywood should continue on with the current franchise after Blade: Trinity...which I think many of us can agree on.
If you take Snipes out of the equation, who do you replace him with? Sticky Fingaz from the failed television series? Or do you hit the star search for a fresh face? It is enough questions to wonder if the series should be brought back to begin with.
Will Wesley Snipes forever be your Blade, or is there anyone else you'd like to see in the role? Should Blade even be rebooted?
