STAR WARS LAND Coming to Walt Disney World?!

Movie DisneyStar Wars by Joey Paur

After Disney got the rights to Star Wars, we knew that somewhere down the line they were finally going to develop the Star Wars Land theme park attraction that has been rumored for years. Well, guess what? It looks like they might actually be moving forward with it.

Theme Park Insider is reporting that a Star Wars themed land will be part of a revamp that is being planned for Disney's Hollywood Studios at The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.

TheForce.net has some addition information that reveals that this will include an expansion of the existing "Star Tours" ride, as well as a number of interactive environments like a full-scale Mos Eisley Cantina. The go on to say that we can expect to "see new levels added to Star Tours and some more interactive attractions, possibly an additional ride." The added that most of "the expansion will be environments and character meet-and-greet areas."

It will take five years to get this all up and running, so I guess I'll have to postpone my Florida trip until 2018. However, the site also says that a year could be shaved off that timeline if Disney decides to ramp things up fast. This mean that they could get it done by 2017, which is the 40th anniversary of the franchise and could line up with the release of Star Wars: Episode VIII.
