Joss Whedon Intends to Make AVENGERS 2 with Robert Downey Jr.

Marvel fans are still waiting to see if Robert Downey Jr. will be back as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, in The Avengers 2. If Joss Whedon has anything to say about it, he will reprise his role in the movie. During a recent interview with The Daily Beast the director is asked about the status of Downey Jr., and this was his response:

He is Iron Man. He is Iron Man in the way that Sean Connery was James Bond. I have no intention of making Avengers 2 without him, nor do I think I’ll be called upon to do that. I don’t think it’s in my interest, Marvel’s interest, or his interest, and I think everything will be fine. But I know that this is Hollywood and you roll with things. You have to be ready for the unexpected.

I think Downey will end up making a deal with the studio, and I'm sure it will earn him a lot of freakin' money. It might be the last time we see him as Stark, but I can see him coming back for some more Avengers action. I'll be shocked if Marvel lets him slip through their fingers. Let's face it, Downey had a big hand in building Marvel's movie empire. If he goes, you know the fans are going to be pissed.
