William Fichtner Talks Shredder Change in NINJA TURTLES Reboot
It was recently confirmed that William Fichtner is playing the villain Shredder in the new big screen reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Fichtner talks a little bit about the character, and reveals what we can expect to see. When asked about Shredder's look in the film, he said,
I actually play a guy named Eric Sachs [Sounds like Sachs? Hard to understand] in the movie. And then he goes through a few stages in his existence.
In the comics, TV shows and movies Shredder's real name is Oroku Saki. This new name is most likely an Americanized version. Fichtner went on to say,
But Turtles is coming together very, very cool. There is a whole interesting dynamic that happens in the world of Turtles and all I can really say about it at this point while working on it is that the Turtle film, it’s not like anything that I remember about the Turtles before. I feel like this Michael Bay-produced movie is just gonna really be something else. I’m pretty excited.
They interviewer then asked a silly question of whether or not his character Eric will be Japanese. Fichtner is not a Japanese actor, and I'd be surprised if they made him Japanese. But maybe he was a white boy raised in Japan. Or maybe he's half white half Japanese. I don't know, but here was the actor's reply...
You know, uh, you know I think it would be much more exciting to find out these things as it unfolds.
The movie opens in theaters on June 6th, 2014, and it also stars Megan Fox as April O'Neil, Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo, Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, Will Arnett as Vernon Fenwick, and Danny Woodburn as Master Splinter.
